All new domain names must be purchased through eServices.

If you purchase a domain name outside of these processes, your website or service cannot go live to the public. You must go through the process to transfer a domain name to the government.

Websites other than Yukon.ca

This guidance is for all websites other than Yukon.ca. Start this process at least 2 weeks before you need your domain name.

  1. Email the Executive Council Office (ECO) at yg.digital@gov.yk.ca to request your domain name.
  2. If your request is approved, email french.web@gov.yk.ca to get the domain name translated.
  3. Email eservices@gov.yk.ca your requested English and French domain names.
  4. eServices will confirm the domain name is available in both languages. If it is, they will purchase the domain name and required SSL certificate.
  5. eServices will charge the costs to the client.

Yukon.ca

You cannot purchase domain names to point to pages on Yukon.ca, but you can request a short URL. For example, Yukon.ca/emergencies. Get your request in at least 2 weeks in advance.

  1. Email yg.digital@gov.yk.ca to request the short URL.
  2. ECO will approve the request and put the short URL in place.

Government campaign domain names

Campaigns are small, special purpose websites that fall under Yukon.ca.

There are 2 options when it comes to domain names for campaign pages: short URL or domain name. Email yg.digital@gov.yk.ca to find out what option will work best for your site.

Start this process at least 2 weeks before you need your domain name.

Short URL

For example, Yukon.ca/good-energy.

  1. Email yg.digital@gov.yk.ca to request the short URL.
  2. ECO will approve the request and put the short URL in place.

New domain name

For example, sartyukon.ca.

Transactional services

You cannot purchase domain names for transactional services.

Users must always begin their journey on Yukon.ca - the government’s website for information and services. For example, Renew a vehicle registration. Never advertise any other URL other than the Yukon.ca page.

Work with your department website manager to get a Yukon.ca page set up.

If you're advertising your service, you must direct users to the Yukon.ca page and not directly to you
