A Data collection notice lets users know what personal information you collect via the service. You must include a Data collection notice if you collect personal information directly or indirectly. For all government digital services and online forms this section is called "A note about privacy."

Why we have a design pattern for Data collection notices

We have a design pattern for Data collection notices so users:

  • know when the government collects personal information; and
  • understand why the information is being collected, the legal authority for collecting it and who they can contact if they have more questions about it.

When to use a Data collection notice

You must use a Data collection notice if you collect personal information from an individual.

When not to use a Data collection notice

Do not use a Data collection notice if you do not collect personal information via the digital service.

How a Data collection notice works
